Hello. Accept my gratitude in advance for deeming my thoughts and intimations worthy enough for your parusal until the cable technician gets to your place. This will serve merely as an outlet for me to deseminate any opinion of mine I feel I would be shortchanging the general public by keeping to myself. There is no one theme, the intent is for the blog to mirror me, so expect it to be predominantly sports, but don’t be surprised if you run into some breadth & depth.

In the spirit of transparency, I feel it is only right that I disclose a few things about myself up front.

Football: I am a football fanatic, with my heart belonging to the Dallas Cowboys and the Michigan Wolverines. It is a bit of a convoluted story as to how I became a Dallas fan (maybe I’ll write about it), but for now all you need to know is that I have been one for as long as I’ve been following the NFL. As far as hailing to the victors, that is far more simple a story. My father obtained his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in Economics from Michigan, my mother graduated from Michigan with an MPH, I matriculated in the fall of 2001 and after much hyjinx and hilarity (and a victory lap), I graduated in 2006 with bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Psychology.

Basketball: I’m more a fan of players, than teams. I know that sounds like a cop-out answer, but even if you disagree with me, you will concede that the NBA is more player driven than team driven. Combine that with the fact that players move around more in the NBA than in the NFL and I think my stance is not indefensible. You will learn over the course of my posts who some of my favorite and least favorite players are. Oh and Kobe, tell me how my ass tastes.

Baseball: Never played as a kid, never followed it seriously. However, I do cheer for the Nationals, and am on the Yankees’ side of YANKS-SAWX, though I do agree with Willy-buns (Michael Wilbon) that they are not the center of the baseball universe as both contingents would have you believe…Cubs fans, it’s not you guys either. I do have certain players for whom I cheer, some for reasons that escape me; C.C. Sabathia, Randy Johnson, Manny Ramirez, Dmitri Young, Ryan Howard, Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Zambrano and Prince Fielder. Expect this to be the extent of baseball postings, unless something ridiculous happens.

Politically: I would put myself left of left of center. I however do not think it matters much, as;

a) I’m a permanent resident and therefore cannot vote-which does have its perks believe it or not. (see: being able to ACCURATELY proclaim that George W. Bush is “not my president.”)

b) unitl this presidential campaign, I saw politicians (and still do to some degree) as all the same in principle, only arguing for different practices. To me, it’s always a matter of principle.

c) the rich are always going to have a leg up and the poor are always going to have one hand tied behind their back, all we are really quibbling over is how much/if we expect the rich to help the poor and if the poor are doing enough for themselves or have become too complacent to be worthy of our help. This is one of the great fundamental arguments our society has faced and will continue to face.

With that said, I will kindly ask that you put your hard hats on, and prepare to have some knowledge dropped on you.

Again, a multitude of thanks for your time.
